The Cancer Care Initiative

The primary aim of the 2014-2019 French Cancer Plan is to meet the needs and expectations of ill people, their family and friends and the citizens as a whole. It not only focuses on the need to cure the illness but also to support patients and their relatives and to prepare the future for all through research and prevention.

The 2014-2019 French Cancer Plan has high ambitions:

  • Curing more patients by promoting earlier diagnoses and by ensuring that everyone has access to quality medical care and innovative therapy;
  • Maintaining continuity and quality of life by providing comprehensive care during and after the illness that takes into account all the patient’s needs;
  • Investing in prevention and research to reduce the number of new cases of cancer and laying the groundwork for progress to come.

An additional aim is to optimise management and arrangements related to combating cancer, for better efficiency, with full involvement of patients and users of the health system.

A major priority has been developed through all of these objectives: to reduce inequality and missed opportunities when confronted with cancer.
