Pain management

At the “Centre de Cancérologie de la Porte de Saint-Cloud” the teams are particularly attentive to pain management and are fully committed to abiding by Article L.110-5 of the French Public Health Code that stipulates that “everyone is entitled to receive treatments to relieve pain. This must, in all circumstances, be anticipated, assessed, taken into account and treated.”

Under the aegis of the French Committee for the Fight against Pain (Comité de Lutte contre la Douleur – CLUD), specially trained teams are on hand to help soothe pain if you express the need for pain relief.

For this purpose, a doctor specialised in pain management, ensures pain consultations in parallel with your radiotherapist or oncologist consultant.

“Pain is what the patient says it is. Pain is not in the head, but the head acts on the pain.”

“Pain is what the patient says it is. Pain is not in the head, but the head acts on the pain.”

“You’re in pain or are frightened of being in pain...
Preventing, treating or relieving your pain is possible.”

Our nursing teams’ commitments to pain management:

  • Prevent pain caused by certain treatments or examinations (perfusion, dressings, etc.) as well as those linked to daily activities like washing or moving around.
  • Treating or relieving acute pain such as chronic pains, which all require specific care.

“You are in pain... Let’s talk about it”

People do not react in the same way to pain. However, it is possible to measure pain intensity.

To help us best adapt your treatment, you can grade your pain on a scale of 0 to 10 using a special ruler.

“We’re going to help you so that you don’t have any pain or you have less pain”

  • By replying to your questions,
  • By explaining the treatments that we are going to dispense and how they are administered,
  • By using the most suitable method or methods.

Analgesics are medicines that relieve pain – they exist in various strengths. Morphine is one of the most powerful, but some types of pain require a different treatment!

“Your participation is essential:
we are here to listen to you, to support and help you”

Our doctors are permantly aware of any therapeutic innovations made in the treatment of cancer. The fight against cancer is the Centre’s core priority.
