The cancer diagnosis announcement initiative is item 40 in the 2003-2007 Cancer Plan, set up at the request of patients during the National Meeting (États Généraux) of Cancer Patients.
The Plan recommends indvidualised support for each patient when the diagnosis of cancer is announced to them.
At the “Centre de Cancérologie de la Porte de Saint-Cloud”, a special consultation with a nurse or radiotherapy technician is offered to you, as well as your family or friends, immediately after the special medical consultation, or just a few days later.
The paramedical consultation
Firstly, the nurse will explain your treatment and the recommendations arising from it.
This moment is yours. It enables you to express your feelings and fears and to ask questions. You will also be able to meet the nursing team and discover how the Center operates.
The nurses are there to lend an attentive ear and help you during your treatment programme. If you so wish, they can put you in touch with someone who will be able to provide support and assistance. They will be able to organise appointments with specialised professionals within the establishment: an algologist (pain management specialist), a nutritionist, a psychologist, a social welfare assistant and even a beauty advisor.
This consultation is important to improve your quality of life throughout your treatment.
You can telephone the nurse or radiotherapy technician who advised you if you have any other questions that preoccupy you.
The coordinating nurses remain available every day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on +33 1 81 89 92 18.
During your treatment, radiotherapy technicians remain available to provide you with information and guidance.
